Should Texas State offer a tuition-cap for higher education?

In two decades, education became very expensive and less affordable for the majority of students in Texas. Getting the highest education has become problematic for minorities and low-income students. The university as a center of education and research should open the door to all students who desire a higher education. Tuition cap will not only allow the racial diversity but also create the development of talents. If Texas Legislature doesn’t step up now to put a cap on this increase of tuition, the immediate impact will be clear: thousands of students will be denied access to higher education and hundreds of faculty and staff will be laid off. The consequence should be the jeopardy of higher education. We don’t want this to happen because we believe that education creates sophisticated and accomplished members of our community. My judgment regards the difficulty we students have when paying our tuition fees, caps on tuition will make college more affordable and protect our future as well as the future of the state.
Establishing the tuition cap in colleges and universities has been a discussion between the Legislature and the School Board of Education. The increase in tuition in higher education has led state legislators to introduce bills that would put a cap on tuition increase. As minority, low-income, and international student myself, I know how difficult it can be to come up with the tuition money. I have to work two jobs in order to pay my tuition money. This is not only unfair, but it cause inequality as well. While I have to spend my hours at work, more privileged students can relax from the difficulty from their studies. If this tuition rate would increase further, I could not afford to go to college and to visit this classroom. Be already disadvantaged, my opportunity for my life would be taken away from me. Education is a public service and everybody has the right to better their lives through education. Therefore I am strongly proposing to implement a tuition cap for all Colleges and universities in Texas.

  1. Blog critique
In the blog Mensan's local revue I found an article titled Should texas state offer a tuition-cap for higher education?

This article caught my attention because it is an issue that I can relate to being a college student in the State of Texas and once being an international student like the author.

This article starts by the author arguing how expensive it has become to attend higher education in the State especially for minorities and low income students. The article emphasises the impact on increase tuition, it can denied access to many prospect students along with a reduction in faculty and staff jobs. The author main argument is that if there is a tuition cap for higher education it would open the doors to all students that desire to attend school.

I strongly believe the author writes to lesgislators and to all students who identified with this issue that can be influence by the article to make a change. The writer expresses very personal thoughts like having to work two jobs just to pay for tuition, which I personally can relate to as well, and the gap it creates between low income and more priviledge students.
I agree that if a change is not done soon, it can dramatically affect the future of the State of Texas and its citizens.

  2. With the demand for higher education on the rise, so is that of the tuition fees for Texas Colleges and Universities. The May 1st posting of Menson's Revue shines light on this growing issue. Tuition is already high enough and has continued to rise over the years. Not everyone can afford the cost of secondary education often resulting in potential students to seek alternative means of financing. Students are for forced to work full time jobs during their tenure or even worse, mount up enormously large debt in the form of loans. The author of this article has exemplified these problems by relating their own financial situation and the burden it carries. I absolutely agree with their argument and more. Rising tuition has heavily placed a strain on families that struggle to cope with the already high costs, and in doing so raises a question of fairness across the board. Placing a cap on tuition would give families the opportunity to prepare for costs without having to worry whether it will be enough later on. This proposal can’t take away from the already high fees, but at least it would place a limit and give a majority of Texas families some much needed breathing room.

  3. I am in total agreeance with my classmate. Texas Legislators have introduced bills that would put a cap on tuition increase. We already pay enough, for just one class alone. Why do we need to pay more?! Not everybody comes from a privelaged family and can afford anything higher than what we are paying now. This is a great bill and I am in favor of this being passed.

He did a great job on writing this article. The only thing you could do is give some examples on what you are paying now for your tuition. Especially since you are an international student. Other than that, this was a great post to read and i enjoyed it.
